Toots
Or chicken Jo Jo started moulting, quite a while ago, we have given her extra chicken spice, we have some chick crumb that she got mixed into her food as well. her eggs are fragile and less frequend as we expected. however even though we have seen the new feathers emerging, they have never filled her out, inface when we closley inspected her the new feathers are broken off about 1cm out of the skin. she is perfectly happy, eats her layers mash and anything resembaling a vegtable in my raised beds however i cant find the broken feathers in any of my books! help? cluckingmad
I'd be interested in this too - my girls seem to have feathers broken of half way down (so not wuite as bad as Jo Jo)... maybe increased protein in her diet might help? Know that helps refeathering ex-batts so worth a try ? Carolyn x

Egluntyne
Keep an eye out that they are not being broken off by one of the others nibbling at her. Anti peck spray might deter this.
Lewis
They sound a bit like feather quills that haven't grown out yet, and that would explain the fewer eggs too. Do they look like: ?
