newbie needs advice

Recommended Posts

Hi, New to the forum but need a bit of advice

We have had 5 girls, 4 banties and 1 large fowl for about 8 weeks now and doing really well apart from the odd sniffle.

We introduced 2 new hens last night putting them straight into the coop at dusk with the others and all ok. This morning my original brood decided to stay in the coop until about 10am when i shooed them all out.

The Newbies seemed ok and the new pekin seems to be running with the others fine, however my RIR is now chasing my new hen (lisa) around the enclosure.

Do i get involved ? Or do i just let them sort it out?

How long will this go on for? :(

Did you have the two new ones in a pen close by first or are they brand new? If so it would be best to house them separately but within sight so they get used to each other then integrate them slowly

If you did start out with them separate then you may need to take a step backwards in your introduction plan until everyone is a bit more at ease

If the bullying isnt bad you can press on but be vigilent for any injuries or major problems
