Hi,

I'm looking at the omlet fencing and electrifying it. I am sure there was a FAQ on it somewhere on this forum but I can't seem to find it any more.

Does it have to form a loop to work?

Ideally I wanted to run it out in an almost complete circle but have the eglu sitting in between either end so it was still accessible from the outside of the netting.

Cheers

Hmm, true. Wonder if it would be possible to lift the netting up to go across it then? The eglu is quite a bit higher than the fence at the moment anyway.

I was going to put the eglu on the decking and then the patch of land beside the decking was going to have the fence on.

I'd really like to keep the eglu accessible.

Main thread here.

You don't need to form a loop. We have our coop in the middle of the fenced-off area and have formed a gate where the netting meets. I agree with others, it is less safe to have the fence butting up to the eglu as the fox can jump onto the eglu and into the fenced-off area. Also, we make sure the netting is at least 1 metre away from any other jumping off points for the fox. It would be terrible if he jumped into the fenced off area and then could not get out again, leaving him nothing to do but kill chooks :( . No idea if that is enough but based on foxes having the agility of a cat, it was my guess for a good distance.

Hello,

I'm new (I'll post in the introductions thread as soon as I have sent this!). We're expecting a cube (cube green) and three pretty chickens ( GNR GNR PP ) on Monday 16th and we want to get an area of the garden ready before they arrive. We live in a semi-rural area very close to a fox den (we see them all the time and know where they live). We figured that electric fencing would be a good starting point and have been looking at 50m kits, but the area we want to fence off has a perimeter of 38-40m.

Can we roll up or trim the spare 10m?

Sorry if this is stupid or if it's been answered before - I did a search and couldn't find anything!

Thank you very much in advance for your advice!

Lesley
