Ebony can't walk properly - Update

Recommended Posts

Ebony is having trouble walking :( she keeps stretching her legs out and up behind her and is a bit unstable. I've checked her over and she doesn't mind me touching her legs. She hasn't laid for over a week but I think she's moulting because she's lost the feathers on her head. I've checked for lice and mites and there aren't any. I've been putting lifeguard in the water this week could she be having some kind of allergic reaction to it?

just got back from taking the boys swimming and ebony is scratching around as normal and has laid a lovely 40g egg  so that was obviously what was bothering her :D

ness sorry, thought you had editted to say she was better.

how is she this morning?

take time now (useful for future)to find as you put it a cheaper vet, the "independants "are often a better bet.

If you use the online search you will find places that deal with chooks!

Or post your ocation someone may know of one, have you looked in the vet section here?fingers crossed.

Ebony is fine :D she didn't lay yesterday but did today. there has been no sign of her funny stretching so i can only assume the egg was the problem. she's running around and scratching as normal.

i will check the vet section on here. the vet i took tia too was lovely and an avian specialist but an injection and a 10 day course of baytril cost me £130 which i feel is a bit too expensive. i love my girls to bits and don't want to deny them vet treatment because of the cost. so i'm going to hunt around, if i can't find anyone i'll just sell the kids to fund any future vet costs :lol:

i know  my oh wasn't happy as we'd only had them about a month and i'd talked him into having them, giving him the usual speech about how cheap they are to keep etc

i can't fault the treatment and the vet was really helpful and explained alsorts of things but i did nearly faint when i had to pay  i told oh that her eggs would sort of pay for the bill but the little darling hasn't laid a decent egg since only softies

the vet i take my cats to wouldn't see her and said i needed an avian specialist :( i think i'll just ring round local vets and see if anyone would be willing to treat my girls just so i'm ready if i need to take them in. think i'll ask what they're likely to charge too
