ive been looking at these some time, they can be fastened to a barrell and topped up etc.

just worried about not so fresh water, hope this makes sense

esp when we go away at weekends even though i have family who comes to the pets 2-3 times a day.

just dont want them to run out water, we have now invested in some ducks as well, so the water is being used quicker. im out couple times a day freshing up and refilling.

what do others think or use?

must be suitable for ducks and chickens and be easy to top up etc

They got a bit slated on a recent thread on another forum (cant remember which one)

I dont think they would be suitable for ducks as they need to be able to submerge their heads in their water I understand and I dont know that they would cope with the size and shape very well

The ones that are good are the 'cup' auto drinkers with the tab that the chicken pecks to get water - also on ebay but they def arent suitable for ducks :(

Are you keeping the ducks separately? that way you could have two solutions more suited to each bird

I remember that your run suffers from drainage problems - are you prepared for the mess that the ducks will create?

hi we have moved the chickens/ducks up the garden and upto now  seem lot better, today hubby has taken all the roof of, and a new one has been put in place with guttering etc.

they are are all in the same area but seperate living place. but the ducks are insisting on living in the covered run with the chickens ( not the chickens houses though).

the ducks have a paddling pool to swim, duck heads in etc, i also have a glug that they cant put there head in but the chickens use, and i have a hanging water container (the plastic white green ones)

the ducks seem to like the hanging one and do drink water from it, we wanted to put a larger container in and have more water for them available.

and at the top of the garden we have a water butt, when i drain water for the ducks water to swim in, the chickens all go mad over it to drink.

so hubby was thinking putting one of these on for them all,

im open to suggestions though

I bought one of these from the same source (good trader, by the way), for my day-old rescue muscovy, and it was ideal for the purpose at the time; but definately not suitable for her now she's a teenager - barely big enough for her to get the tip of her beak into.

I would think they'd be o.k. for adult chickens though, but still you would need something for the ducks' head-dunking.

How about one of these?

The drinking tray is about the size of a dinner plate and a couple of inches deep in the middle.

I have one for the my big chooks....I never fill it to the top but I am sure if you did it would last them a good long while. :D

It does need to be on a level standing though otherwise the gravity/air-lock doesn`t work and the tray overflows...just dribbles but "Ooops, word censored!"ody wants damp Aubiose! :D

Justto let you know one of my indian runner ducks drowned in a childs pool early this year overnight.Like you l have chickens and ducks they all have there own sleeping houses cubes eglu and a plastics bench the ducks use this.We have 2 glugs for the chooks as theres 1 of the runs only the chickens get into as they jump into it that stops the ducks dirtying up there water.I also have the swimming part for the ducks and plenty of water bowls for them all.Im glad you asked this tho as l was going to see if theres a better way as my little calls sit in the bowls :lol::lol:
