Silkie baby with the sniffles

Recommended Posts

My little baby blue bearded silkie has the sniffles.

:(

I noticed today that her (hopefully) eye was a bit gunged so I removed her from the others who are all fine. I put her indoors in an indoor guinea pig hutch with some water with citricidal in it. She also has some growers pellets which she has started to eat and some mealworms and tuna. I have bathed her eye with warm water every hour and it is now clear. She is sneezing and blowing bubbles through her nostrils but her eyes are not bubbling up any more.

Anyone got any other suggestions that I haven't covered?

I never really wanted a silkie. The breeder gave her to me and we have got rather attached now.

Thanks for reading,

Jan

Hi Jan,

I'm not very experienced and hope someone will offer some sound advice soon.

I had similar issues with my chickens recently not identical tho.

From what i was advised - quarantine is important - so u've done that already which is good.

My thread is entitled 'It all seems to be going downhill - UPDATE!!!' If you haven't already done so give it a quick read as some people discuss the symptons you are describing.

Try not to worry and keep a close eye on her - the citricidal will hopefully clear whatever it is up. If not u may need antibiotics from the vet.

Good luck - keep us posted!

Mine have runny noses at present with clear fluid, probably due to stress. I understand if it is cloudy or bubbles in the eyes they are probably best having antibiotics or getting checked anyway.

I think I would keep an eye on her Janty and if her eyes are affected again or her chest is noisy take her to the vet. :?

Little sweetie has polished off her mealworms and tuna today and is a lot chirpier. We called the vet who said that we should keep an eye on her but as the eye had stopped weeping and the sneezes had stopped too, then she shouldn't need anti-bs. We have to keep her inside for a few more days and monitor her. She seems fine now...sitting on my shoulder pilling my hair and chirping down my ear.

Keep fussing!

She won't let me stop.

I've just fed her more mealworms and tuna and she's loving the attention.

Hubby (he who said that she looked like an ugly emu when we got her) is even fussing over her. He has got a theory that she's faking it for the extra treats.

:D
