coco
I have ben in touch with the local co-ordinator for the BHWT and she has said that there will be hens available possibly in December. I was thinking of getting a smaller run and a rabbit hutch for them. Will this be suitable, otherwise I was going to give them a cat carrier to sleep in. Trixabell
my girls had a massive hutch to live in and we extended our run, they loved it, bit freaked out at first but then really enjoyed the space, i don't know if thats helpful advice, i think i was very aware that they had little space to start wit and i just wanted to give them as much as possible, it took them 2 days to come out of the hutch into the run but from then on they have progressed and were running around my garden within 2 months
cluckingmad
Hi Coco, My three ex-batts spent their first few months with us in a rabbit hutch with a mesh run my OH made for them Got it secondhand so was very cheap and they were very happy in there till the discovered the joys of the cube some months later

Sarahsausage
It sounds a bit small to me, have you got other chickens that they'll be mixed with eventually? There's some good advice on introducing new hens. If it's only a temporary home it would be fine, you can get some quite cheap coops and runs on Ebay. coco
They will be going in with my other girls in the big run as soon as sure they will all get on. They will also get supervised free ranging time, its very handy getting in from work at 3.30 it means the girls can have an hour free before it gets dark. abwsco
We've used a plastic rabbit hutch for all our intros and it's worked out fine but have also seperated off part of the WIR so they have their own bit.
Sarahsausage
I'm getting a couple more ex-batts too very soon Coco, bit nervous about the introductions as it's the first time I've added more hens so will be a learning curve! Good luck with yours!
