thebdj
Yo. Original hatchlings are now 8 weeks old and they are now outside. They are in an enclosed little run with a lot of windbreak and shelter so are being eased in and have been weened off of heat for a good fortnight. Anyway, in their coop, I have lined the bottom with paper as I do for my normal laying hens but they seem intent on pecking it all up and trying to eat it! Any ideas why they are doing this and any alternatives for what I could put down? I don't want to be cleaning cack off of the floor of the coop each week and as they have an unhealthy dietary interest in the newspaper need an alternative. I have put straw in for the moment which is great but doesn't cover the floor brilliantly. Cheers Justin
Lewis
What about sawdust? Thats what I used. They're probably just being chicks and interested in everything How long did you leave it, they may get used to it and ignore it after a few days

thebdj
I absolutely love aubiose and am happy to join the Egluntyne 'Vote Aubiose at the Next Election' campaign that seems to rear it's head at every opportunity I always like to think that a base like paper though just makes it easier to pull everything out when cleaning or provides a sort of catch mat much like what a tray would do. Oh well aubiose it is for everything then! I'll mix it in with the food as well!
Redwing
I was thinking about getting some thin rubber matting and using that under a thin layer of aubiose, you'd have to remove the matting regularly and check under it but its a thought
thebdj
I had considered something similar. I need something that obviously won't absorb and generally could be wiped clean or sanitised easily. Keep me posted on your rubber findings ... umm so to speak
