funny long eggs - worried about hen

Recommended Posts

Reposting this as no response in egg forum and am a bit concerned, so would appreciate any advice - probably worrying about nothing, but am nevertheless worrying....

Hi, one of my three has laid very elongated eggs yesterday and today - really quite noticably so. Shell quality seems fine although slightly ridged. I tried googling and it seems it might be an infection. Does anyone have any experience of this? All three hens seem absolutely fine and happy (we got them in April when they had just started laying).

Edited to add that they were wormed with Flubenvet a couple of weeks ago - she was the one with worms.

Thanks Christian - this hen generally lays quite rounded eggs, so it just struck me as unusual. They recently moved from organic pellets to mash, so I wonder if that could have anything to do with it. Or maybe it's the sheer relief at having got rid of the worms the other week :?

She's in the nesting box as I write, so we'll see what develops. I showed my husband the eggs last night (he thought I was exaggerating until he saw them) and we wondered if they are maybe double-yolkers because they are very long. When another hen had been relieved of a worm infestation, she rewarded us with a couple of very large eggs, which we thought might have just been because her system had been shoogled up - will report back later....
