docsquid
I've noticed over the past few days that Gwennie, the least mature of our three little hybrid hens, has been trying to nestle under Megan as if she is a chick. Megan looks a bit surprised, but tolerates a hen-sized chick trying to sit underneath her with some dignity, if also some discomfort. Do other people have fully-grown chickens trying to be chicks? Or is it just that Gwennie is trying to keep warm? I just hope poor Megan doesn't go from point of lay to broody without actually laying anything at all! Busybird
My chooks often seem to settle down for the night in a big chickeny heap. I wonder if it is how they keep warm or if they just think that whichever chook settles first has chosen the best bit of Eglu so all try to sleep there
docsquid
I get the impression that chickens always think that the other chicken has a better deal than them! Gwennie is tucking in under Megan during the day too, but maybe she is just a cuddly chicken - she likes me giving her a cuddle too!
Redwing
I have a batch of youngsters where on is a large fowl and the rest are bantams, they are alwasy trying to get under the large fowl (Chris) and he seems very tolerant of them It could be to do with warmth or fright I suppose
Lydia
One of our ex-batts, Punk, is happiest when sat under someone else or between someone's legs. She usually picks Ablett as she's quite a big girl but last night Hatpin was sat on top of her. She waits until a likely candidate has settled down for the night and then dives underneath
Plum
When I first put my new girls in with the others at night they tried to nestle under Grackle. She looked shocked but tolerated it. Rather cute .
Woodcat
hey My three pekins nestle under the Dorking that sleeps with them. What is quite amusing is that they don't choose to Prof makes them and if they get up and move over she grabs their tails and drags them back till they tuck under her like chicks. it's really really cute
