docsquid
Just one quick question - now she's started, Blodwyn has laid an egg every day. Is it normal for a chook to just start laying regularly? Particularly at this time of year? I thought we might have an egg every other day or so, but she's really got stuck in! The other two are crouching. Gwennie now crouches when you open the door and approach her - you don't even have to touch her. Megan went into the cube for quite a while today while Blodwyn was laying - no egg from Megan, but I'm hopeful in the next couple of days. Jools
Once they settle into a routine, that's it with maybe the odd day off for luck. I think it's contagious too, once one starts, the others tend to join in pretty soon.
Fur 'n' Feathers
Are they crouching yet? That's usually the indicator that they are coming into lay. We've got 2 new girls - at 24 weeks now. Pitsi's been laying for a few weeks but Aspro hasn't started yet. She is crouching occasionally and is definately not flighty now and this is the usual pattern we've found. Hope you get some soon. docsquid
Gwennie obliged today - first egg! I was expecting Megan to be next, but it was Gwennie who went into the nest box. I was pleasantly surprised to find Gwennie's egg next to a large double-yolker from Blodwyn so our first two-egg day. Both are 23 weeks. All three are crouching. And the answer is scrambled on toast for lunch

docsquid
And then it was three! Megan laid her first egg today, and we had an egg from Blodwyn and Gwennie, making it our first three-egg day. Woo hoo!
