Eglu Go vs Eglu Classic?

Recommended Posts

I am not sure which to go for! I prefer the Eglu Go house size & shape BUT I see it doesn't come with run extensions like the classic?

I do plan on allowing my 3 ex batts free range time daily but I know some days this might not pan out due to overtime shifts sometimes and the weekends away over the summer - I have provisions for someone to let them in & out of their house but not necessarily commit to catching them loose in the garden!

What about getting a Go without a run and use the money you save to build a Walk in Run for them so they always have lots of room? :)

I asked at Grand Designs about extensions for the Go and they said they'd consider it, but they might take some time if they haven't started on them yet, so I wouldn't wait.

Moving it around is more likely to kill more patches of grass. In one rainy week you wil have a mudbath where your Eglu is and when you move it you will have an unsightly patch. Setting them up in their own area and making a garden feature from it really is a better option. I only use my Eglu and run for introductions/hen holidays and tend to end up killing a couple of run shaped patches of grass each year - trouble is you will find you want to put them where you can see them! Look through pictures on her of the lovely features people have made of their permanant areas.

I'm new to all this too, I've just got a Go (arrived on Friday) and I'm really pleased with it! I've not seen a Classic in use, so can't compare them; I really like the idea of the eggport on the Classic but the reason we went for a Go was so we could have the door on the side - the area we want it to sit would make it difficult to access at the end of the run. I also like that you can take the whole top off the Classic for easier cleaning - you can't do that with the Go! You have to get down on your hands and knees and get half inside it! I would have gone for a Classic other than the run door issue, as I like the curvy shape, but I'm not disappointed in my Go at all!

I had a play with a Go today and wasn't desperately impressed; it feels a lot cheaper for not a lot less money, but that's just my opinion.

The plastic used is totally different from that of the classic and cube; it feels thinner and more brittle. As my friend said, if you took a hammer to an eglu (heaven forbid) it wouldn't do much damage, but she thought the Go felt as if it might shatter.

I didn't take it apart, but the panels appear to clip onto a frame, so theoretically, I guess you could swap coloured panels around, but there's an easily accessible gap between the frame and inner panels, so I'd want to take it totally apart to clean and make sure that there weren't any bugs.

I don't know about the hammer but when I do hen parties and I take the top off the Eglu James likes to sit inside it and roll it around. Which never seems to do it any harm!
