syedraza
Hi, I have 2 chickens that I have reared since they were 1 day old. They are now 8 months old and I have only had about 5 eggs from one of them and that was back in Sept. Please could anyone shed some light as to what could be happening. Could it be the recent cold weather? Or could it be because during October, I was looking after (only for 4 weeks) some old battery hens and this may have stressed them out? I had some other chikens last year who were laying eggs nicely until around October time when we started getting the very cold spell. They never layed after that. I am hoping that these dont pack it all in this year as well... Many thanks Syed
Egluntyne
Hello Syed. Welcome to the forum. The visiting hens might have upset them a little and that could have had an impact on their laying. What are you hens eating? Are they free ranging? It might be worth confining them to their run and feeding them solely on pellets for a few days. Withhold all extras as they will eat those in preference to their pellets. Have you given them a look over to check for lice and checked their housing for redmite? Have they been wormed recently? If not, I'd suggest a course of Flubenvet.
The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that Syed. If they were any older, I'd suggest that they were stopping lay for the winter. As youngsters though, they really ought to be laying right through, even on a limited basis. Egluntyne gives all the options I'd have suggested. Could they be getting too many treats perhaps? As regards to eating, I give them s"Ooops, word censored!"s from the house along with layers pellet and eat all of it up. i have checked for lice and redmite and not seen anything. for working, I have not give them any Flubenvet. I shall try this. Thanks.
syedraza
Would one tub of 1% Flubenvet be enough for 2 chickens or do I need to get bigger quantity?
Egluntyne
One tub will be plenty.
