tom123
I have just been given a large (about 5ft) rabbit hutch similar to this... And wondered if I could use it to rear chicks in with a heat lamp. It has a felt roof which could be taken off and replaced with mesh so the heat lamp hangs above. It would be used for 3-4 pekin/brahma bantam chicks until they moved to a bigger run. Has anyone else used something like this? If so, pics would be great Thanks Tom
Redwing
Assuming that it would be indoors then yes Tom you could use it The mesh on that one is quite big, if yours is the same I would line with smaller mesh to stop the chicks squeezing out or a cat getting a paw in! tom123
It would be inside and the mesh is 1 x 1/2 galvanized so no worry there. Should I cut a hole in the roof or replace it with wire?
Redwing
If it were mine I would remove the roof and put wire on but keep the roof itself so that you can use it as a hutch if you wish once they are older as it would be a good sheltered house for them later

Redwing
Chris Moyles is fine thanks, we still are none the wiser as to its boy/girl status
Lewis
If its anything like a similar hutch we bought, the roof just unscrews, I put a lamp inside through under the roof for the quail, but that was just a standard bulb as they moved in at a few weeks old
