coco
I have been feeding the girls ex batt crumbs which they love but also spread everywhere. I thk there is as much on the run floor as is eaten. So to try and cut back waste I switched them to ex batt pelets. I came home today to find the feeders nearly full and all the crumb gone off the floor and five chickens not looking happy.
clucky chicken
Try mixing the pellets and crumb into some warm water and feed as porridge - Did this with Mash and pellets when I first got mine - they happily munch on both now! It's their little treat - especially in cold weather Sure they will be happily eating once they get the taste!
The Dogmother
What type of feeders are you using Coco? Can I suggest that you try a gravity feeder with fins in it to stop the feed being flicked out I used the ex-batt crumbs for a while because I like to vary the texture of their feed to keep them interested; I found that they laid soft-shelled eggs though, so I cut it in with their regular pellets and all was well again. jkl
hi i guess all chooks are different! i've got a gravity feeder like above and the little darlings still flick the pellets out! i don't worry about it too much - the girls tend to peck it all up just before they take themselves to bed cheers
beulah59
Mine took a day or two to realise it was the same stuff ... they're happy enough now!
