When i cleaned my eglu the other day i was quite surprised it had a lot of condensation on the inside of the roof. It was when it was extremely cold and frosty so i guess they were warm inside, but if i hadn't cleaned them when i did would they have got damp during the night . Would that do them any good ? The droplets were quite big and wet.

I didn't know the eglu did that inside as it's supposed to be well ventilated, keeps them warm in winter / cool in summer etc.

It might be that they carried water in with them from the snow and it evaporated and condensed on the roof. Would it roll down the back and get out that way or drip down?

 

Not sure why else it would happen, do you shut the door or leave it open at night?

I leave the door shut at night. They didn't really go out in the snow as they weren't that impressed with it. They are out in the drizzle at the moment so i will see if them being wet makes the roof damp when i clean them tomorrow.

The condensation was all over the roof so i think it would just drop off where it felt like.

I believe condensation goes to the coldest spot in a room, and when you exhale you also exhale moisture so it might just be that. Ventilation should help. If they are wet when they go in then as they warm up they would probably create condensation. I checked my wooden ark during the worst of the snow, which had settled on the roof, and there was a sheet of ice inside the hen house. I put a blanket over it and the added insulation cleared it.
