Hello all

 

As newbies, we've decided to create a permanent site for the eglu and run - The lawn isn't big enough and we've run out of clean grass after just 2 weeks!

 

We're going the Omlet route - edging and woodchips - just got the edging today (still have to find some woodchips).

 

Now, my question is on moving the eglu around - I know they say pick up the end of the run and drag it, but it feels really flimsy - and that's not going to help in nudging it over a 15cm edge on a regular basis! Is there a knack to moving it around and over obstacles?

 

Should you unclip the run? That sounds like a ridiculous question but the clips look flimsy, so I'm terrified of breaking them and then having chickens running amok! Erm...think I'll order some spares...

 

Any advice?

I'd unclip the run, & also take the top off the eglu -it's much lighter & easier to handle that way. That's how I used to move my

Not at all idiot, a perfectly sensible question that we've all asked at some point or other.

I take the top off the eglu theen either pick it up from both ends (need help here!) or sor of zig-zag one side then the other! It works honest!!

As long as there's two of you, it's no problem lifting the eglu plus run . If you put some of your spare clips on the joins, it makes it pretty stable. I did it with a converter on and it was still possible .

 

Unscrewing the eglu from the run each time would become a real chore . (Although it's wise to loosen and re-tighten the screws from time to time so they don't seize up.)

Two of mine are on permenant sites

 

I rarely ever move them

 

When I clean them they stay in situ and to refresh the run bedding I tilt mine up

 

In winter when the drainage s not so great I dont hose them down I just bucket clean

What sort of edging have you used? I am rapidly losing my lawn too and would like to save some!!

I've just bought 15cm log edging from B&Q - it's half price at the moment - so well worth grabbing now!

 

Having trouble finding wood chips though. Bark is everywhere, but not wood...Need to befriend a tree surgeon!
