Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Hi,

 

I lost one of my pekins earlier this week. Which has left me with one pekin and three australorps. My little girl was really upset (as of course was I)! And I have been looking for different breeds today, and found someone who has a couple of Seramas. They look to be lovely little birds, but I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of them? I would prefer to get two the same, so they are not bullied.

I'd say they are a bit small to go with your other chooks

 

The only person I know on here with Seramas is Purple Hen, hopefully she will be able to offer advce re character and hardiness

Defiantly too small to be mixed with Australorps. Is there no way you could separate your girls to have a flock of australorps and 2 bantams??

unfortunately not, there wouldn't be enough room in the garden to seperate them. Unless I was to keep the Seramas seperate all the time in another coop? And let them out in the garden at different times?

That's what I was meaning. Have 2 coops and runs and have your pekin and a serana and then your 3 big hens in another coop??

 

Housing wise, I've got quite a few spare coops and runs all new if you want 1. PM me if interested

Hi, I agree with Redwing and Tom, I keep my Serama separate, they are very tiny and could be vulnerable to bullying. I would be careful about free ranging them as they are good at flying too.

My serama has been living with LF and legbars, but he is a boy, so has more authority! He's currently inside recovering from myco and he and his girlfriends (on order) will have a separate house and run when they move outside once the weather gets warmer

 

They are great little birds though. And the poo is so much easier to deal with!!!

You need to speak to Kooshie. I think they breed seramas!
