Yet another dilema

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have separated Evie from the other two today, she is trapped in the run whilst the other two are running about outside. Evie is not impressed. Tomorrow she can have a turn whilst the others are in the run but my problem is what shall i do with them tonight. Shall i put the 2 in a box together indoors and leave Evie by herself? Also where will the other 2 lay their eggs?

If I keep them separate like this for a while will they get on when they are all back together.

Also how long do you put the bumper bit on for , does it stay there forever?

Its now pouring with rain so i've swapped the girls over as i don't want them getting too wet with not many feathers, but what about Evie - i haven't got anything to shelter her?

It's tricky knowing what to do for the best, I can sympathise :? . I had my 2 girls sleeping in a pet carrier within the walk in run at night while the others were in the eglu, and separated by old Omlet run sections during the day. As long as they can see each other, there shouldn't be a problem with them getting on when they re-integrate.

They sometimes get on OK at night (as long as you let them out sharpish in the morning). Can you put them all in together at bedtime when they're sleepy?

I've been putting Lola back with the others at night and seperating her in the morning.

they are all out Fr together at the moment. Lola is more interested in scratching round then eating Lily's feathers. I will put her back on her own when they go back in the run.

That's part of the problem , evey now and then Evie gives them a little tweek when they are all out together, but I'm not sure how often she does it as i can't watch them every single minute. If i give them loads of different things to eat do you think that will keep Evie busy enough?

The thing is they gobble everything so fast

I've just been out to give them some peas and poor Evie is getting very wet now, shall i let her back in with the others ?

I really don't know what to do for the best.

Would it be a good idea to spray the other 2 with the purple spray - i read that chickens don't peck the purple bits ?

Lola is now back in solitary as caught her plucking feathers from Lily. she is in a run with a plastic sheet over the top. As long as Evie is dry she will be fine. i 'll put Lola back in with the others after dark. As for purple spraying the others I sprayed Lily and there was purple feather uneaten in the house this morning. Can you just spray the bits she's pecking the most and see it that works.

Well, for the moment we have a solution. We have put the rabbit run in the chicken area with plastic sheeting over the top. Evie is at least out of the rain and the other 2 can play near her but without getting pecked.

I think Evie was getting a bit hungry as she went straight to the food bowl that i had hidden for her under a cover but wasn't clever enough to find it but now it is in the run in the dry.

Thanks for all your help xxxx

What happens to the feathers that get pecked does the bully eat them - i haven't found any....

Do they eat the feathers because they are lacking something ?

They are all tucked up safe together in bed now so i hope Evie behaves. The thing is i intend to get up early and put her straight into the rabbit run but what shall i give her to lay her egg in if she hasn't done it ?
