buffie
Well just thought after eglutine's comment in another thread you may be interested in my new washing machine. I have never invested in this type of thing but with not much time available I was at my wits and and about to find an ironing lady. Anyway It's the LG Direct Drive Steam Washer! You'll find it online We got the black one and it's very eco friendly, so that made the decision! So far I've washed our duvet, sterilised dog beds, refreshed my dry clean only stuff and about to use a hand wash cycle. If I pop in dry bedding or say Michael's work shirts and trousers they come out crease free on refresh, uses just steam, so no ironing!! 8kg max load so loads done in 1 go!! it's also very handsome BBx Edited February 1, 2007 by Guest

Egluntyne
Cor!! Looks marvellous. Pity about the cleaning though...I'd really got my hopes up there!!
Guest
Ooooh! I am interested! It sounds fab, too good to be true really! I wonder what it's limitations might be. How long does a cycle take? The site says you can steam cashmere instead of using a dry cleaners. I would have thought the heat from steam would shrink the wool - so that's really interesting! I wondered straight away (of course ) if you would be able to 'wash' crocs in it, or might they melt? I really hope you remember to report back Buffie after a month and again after 3 months so that we know what you can't do in it.
buffie
Well I have nearly got all my washing done and my goodness it was a huge pile. I have decided that many things I normally iron are actually flat enough and de creased enough to go into the airing cupboard. The wash uses less electricity and water. I can do 8kg's on synthetics in 1 hour and 2o mins. An effective quick cycle takes only 20 mins but you would spend 2 hours doing 4 loads to get the same cleaning effect. I had a max 5kg machine before and my clothes wouldn't come clean enough first time for me to be happy. Clay soil and hard water I use eco friendly liquids to so the steam boost really kicks the marks out. The duvet has come up a treat and I sha;; do our mattress protector and pillows later. Feels so much cleaner after our little kitty flea problem of late Pet blankets/ heavy soil can have 2 extra cleaning settings plus 3 different rinses if anyone has senstive skin and a baby setting. Obviously for their clothes not them Well I will report back. This means I won't have much spare cash to play with BUT I won't have the house full of mucky clothes getting me down! Woo hooo! kannie
I've never heard of this Buffie - sounds amazing. Was it recommended by someone, or have they used them abroad somewhere?
hillfamily
Like the sound of this - will add the link to my favourites as I feel sure my washing machine is nearing the end of it's life. Do like the reassurance that everything is nice and clean and germy free
buffie
I've never heard of this Buffie - sounds amazing. Was it recommended by someone, or have they used them abroad somewhere? It came out last summer but i'd never heard of it, we went to friends and Chrissie had a magazine featuring it. Mikey made the error of telling me all about it. The eco friendly bit combined with efficient cleaning using steam set me off, and Mikey for that matter. Since we went greener with the washing I can't get the bloomin'clothes clean but even with my old washing chemicals I still wasn't happy that they looked clean and couldn't remove dog hair etc. I am very impressed, worth the hefty outlay as I don't have to pay £30 per month (at least) for ironing. Will save long term and it has a 5 year warranty. i am happy to be a guinea pig and tell you if it still has us raving in a month BBx
Cate in NZ
Oh, yes Buffie, do please come back and let us know if it continues to live up to expectations. My poor old washing machine is on it's last legs, and I just know that it's going to need replacing soon. We are quite hard on washing machines in this household......... football playing menfolk, (why can't they leave some of the mud on the pitch ) and several outfits a day daughter , so the machine is on constantly all weekend. This steam washing machine looks as if it may be worth the investment .
buffie
Just to let you know, Mikey used refresh on his work trousers and shirt. Hung them up and he's gone off to work in them! They smell fresh and look like they have been washed and ironed! BBx
Guest
New toys are great, aren't they? It is really interesting hearing about your experiences and enthusiasm of/for the machine. Sadly, mine is not showing any signs of breaking down and it is one of the most reliable makes (Bosch) with a large drum. Otherwise I would be seriously considering following in your footsteps! Guest
Do keep us posted about how efficient this machine is Buffie - I'm going to have to buy a new machine for the new house, and having looked at this ones spec, this could be the machine for me, as long as it's as good as they say..! And it comes in PINK!!!!!! What more could a girl ask for?!
buffie
I've never been into gadgets or cars. Not my thing but this year I need more time and needed to be able to be safe and secure arriving at meetings The car is sorted and this machine is so far saving me time. Oh but I'm using it on here I think I really need some therapy myself BBx
Popcorn
Gosh...it sounds brilliant Jayne. I've totally missed this thread. I'd love a new washing machine. My Whirlpool is fine, but it leaves powder marks on the clothes at times and I'm not 100% that is gives a really good clean. Still - we are stuck with it until it breaks down. Haven't got any spare money to throw around at the minute. Like Ginette says, Bosch is a very good make, and that would have been my next choice. I'll be interested to see how you get on with your new LG. It sounds wonderful. I do SO much washing. Washing machine is on every single day in our house.
