coco
Lily my ex batt is moulting and Lola has been pulling her feathers out. I seperated Lola and re introduced her this weekend. I sprayed Lily with anti peck spray but have come home today to find blood on Lilys wing and signs of the new feathers having been pulled out. I have put Lola back on her own again and purple sprayed Lily. The problem is that when the new feathers come trough they have no anti peck spray on them, that and they are really tasty to Lola. how long does it take for a chicken to finish moulting as I think I am going to have to keep Lola seperate until Lily has finished moulting. Lily isn't her usual self anyway, I think normally if anyone tried pulling her feathers out she would stand up for herself. I've been giving extra protein and poultry spice to help with the new feathers.
The Dogmother
You will either need to keep them seperate until she's stopped moulting (usually takes about 4 weeks in all) or put a bumper bit on the bully.
evanowen
Until they stop? It varies so much.
The Dogmother
They're all different, but it usually takes around 4 weeks for them to have completely renewed their wardrobe. Plenty of protein, cod liver oil and a good poultry tonic works wonders. I used seaweed and alfalfa in their feed this time and they're all looking grand now. coco
Thanks for the advice. She started moulting just as the cold weather started so thats about three weeks ago. On the plus side it is lovely to see her with a feathery chest [she's been bald chested since I got her] and lovely fluffy knickers. Lola the bully will have to stay in solitary a bit longer, I'd rather not bumper bit her unless there is no other option.
