White speckles on the egg? A problem?

Recommended Posts

Hello first of all!! I've got 4 chickens which have just started laying in the last couple of weeks! Yummy!

We've just found an egg which has lots of white raised speckles on it, and I can't find any information on what this means? Is this pretty standard? Or something that I should be concerned about! Advice from all you mother hens much appreciated!

Thats useful to know! I didn't realise they went in cycles. Does the frequency/ or size change during the cycle? I'm trying to work out how many are laying, and so far am just getting 2 distinct sizes so am assuming that just two are so far.

I'm no expert, and only have two chooks but they have been laying for over a year now and their eggs are quite distinctive. Tikka always lays pale very smooth and torpedo shaped ones and Korma's are almost round, dark brown and usually quite rough with occasional white specks. The one thing that amuses me is that when I go to get them from the nest box Tikka's are always beautifully clean and Korma's always looks like she's rolled them around in poo!!!!
