troyca
Do the size of eggs change as the chickens mature? Do the yolks change size/colour?

AmberSky
I agree, egg production slows down as the hen gets older but you tend to get a LOT larger eggs.
Gelbel
the yolks and egg size get bigger as the chicken matures OMG - Joy's only been laying a few weeks and has been producing 80g eggs most days. I've taken to having 2 slices of toast when having one of her eggs for breakfast.
emchook
I have had a couple of 80g + eggs . They are huge and I feel a bit sorry for the chicken that has laid them !
Gelbel
Tell me about it Emchook! Joy begs for a cuddle every night when I lock them in. This from a hen who did not want a hand near her before she started laying.

PeckyBeak
lol Yeah, just a reminder of the whopper that my Lavender laid compared with "normal" eggs, Still laying good big eggs around 70g but glad she has stopped her ostrich impersonations. Space Chick
Can I ask Peckybeak, was it a double yolker? That is a HUGE egg, poor baby. Ouch!
PeckyBeak
Yes Space Chick, it was, Lavender laid a number of double yolkers in her first few months of laying. We never actually got to eat the egg as we were so proud of it, we kept it for over 2 months to show to (or bore) various visiting friends and relatives. Sad is't it
