ChickenTracey
Hi Folks I had my eglu and chicken delivered today However, i noticed that when i shut the nesting hatch door it wasnt secure..it was qiute lose and moved. I turned the handle as far as it would go but was still lose. Should it be very secure? Thanks in advance
Cooks
Yes it should be secure although I have read people mention before of a 'jiggle' in it (you are meaning the eggport hatch?) If in doubt call Omlet they are very helpful
ChickenTracey
Yes i mean the egg port hatch. I would describe it as a jiggle.....but if this isnt normal then i will give Omlet a call tomorrow
Cooks
if it's secure and doesn't come out, other than jiggling, I am sure it will be fine, but if you are worried then contact omlet they will help you further
ChickenTracey
My husband is going to ring Omlet today as the wiggle isn't just a little wiggle....my husband had a look and you can get your fingers in the gap and i believe a determined fox could get in....it moves qiute a bit. I have opened a friend's eglu hatch last year when i cared for her chickens for a weekend and it wasnt like that.
Redwing
All of my eggport doors are loose like that.. As long as you hear an audible click when you turn the handle then the door should be secure (the handle shouls be at the north/south position when it is clicked shut) yes I can run my fingers under the gap but the lip is such that I could never get the door off
The Dogmother
Sounds within the normal parameters to me, but call Quin at Omlet if you're worried.
ChickenTracey
My husband has rung them and they said the door should be secure and not move. So they are sending out a new door and we should get it tomorrow. If the door still wiggles they are going to replace the whole eglu. The Dogmother
Fantastic! I checked the egg port door on my cube at lunchtime; it wiggles very slightly, but I can't get my fingers in at all.
ChickenTracey
We are very impressed with Omlet's customer service. Hopefully the new door will fix as it should. My 1 hen celebrated too by laying our first egg....they only arrived yesterday morning!
