iandjsmum
Hi sadly one of my chickens has been badly pecked by another and has quite a large wound. I've brought her inside (she's in a play pen in the kitchen) but now I'm wondering how long it takes for feathers to start growing back? Lewis
Is she bleeding/cut? You might want to spray it with some gentain violet/terramycin to stop any infections It'll take a couple of weeks, maybe longer - to help her grow them on you can feed a little bit of extra protein like tuna and mealworms (some people say you can use catfood with no chicken in it)
Sarahsausage
Definitely use the gentain violet spray, this will also stop the other hens pecking at the wound. Don't leave her too long separate from the others as they may reject her when you put her back.
iandjsmum
Thanks for the advice everyone. At the moment she's happily free ranging with all but one of the others in the garden. The pekin who likes to peck her is on her own in the play pen instead so that they can all enjoy some time together. No sign of any feathers yet but she is looking happy and the wound is healing and looks healthy thankfully.
