Jeniwren
I have a Miss Pepperpot, about a year old. Over the past week she has lost feathers at the sides of her neck. The skin in this area looks very red and dry. She is perky as normal and still laying, she seems absolutely fine, no sign of red mite and my gingernut ranger is fine. Should I be worried? The Dogmother
It is usual for their exposed skin to get red, just slather it with some Johnsons tea tree cream and it'll be fine. Keep up her protein intake while she's growing new feathers - chick crumbs, meal worms and dried alfalfa are all good for this. You'll not find red mites on the bird; they live in the housing, but do check her botty for lice or northern fowl mites.
