Just had my renewal come through for my buildings and contents insurance, it's £30 more than last year and I've added another year of NCD, so have the max of 9 years claim free As far as I'm aware there's been no burglery round here either. I'm really miffed, last year they gave me a £20 Homebase voucher to renew and this year try and get it back by charging me £30 more

When my renewal came up I got my cheapest quote at comparethemarket.com. It was half the price for the same cover. If you don't want to change company then show them a more competitive quote from somebody else and they will probably match it.

Watch out when trying to beat quotes...make sure the new policy really is like for like cover!

I always check at quidco.com to see whether there are any incentives available.

 

It does annoy me that the companies feel that loyal customers are worth less to them than new business. Often I've decided to move, ring up my existing company, and the price miraculously becomes reduced.

I have bog basic cover as I have nothing of value (highest value item is my very old computer or the cooker, and no crown jewels ) and never have accidental cover (if I break something, it's my own fault) but I want the legal cover as have awkward neighbours on one side. I've found cover with Kwik Fit at £154 all in including legal cover, and it looks pretty similar to what I've got already, but I'll do a double check. I'll check those websites before clicking to pay as well

M & S were the best for us this year. Previously LV but I know it varies so much from area to area. I know we pay less than your cheapest price with full accidental damage etc

These companies rely on customer loyalty and the fact that many of us are too lazy to bother looking at alternatives. I've been with the same bank for 30 years and when I had a mortgage I stuck with the same provider till it was paid off I had friends who remortgaged their properties every year

It really pays to look around.

sounds a little better but still! Some IFA direct policies have goo incentives - two months free, Homesure for only £2.50pm and legal for £1.50pm or free!

 

Also some IFA have the facility to BEAT any premium!!!!

I joined quidco, and found that Kwik fit were offering cashback of £42.50. As Kwik Fit was the cheapest quote for me from GoCompare, I went through quidco and bought the insurance. It worked out slightly dearer than through GoCompare but £117.50 (£160 less £42.50) is OK by me!

 

I've had the email from quidco telling me the transaction is being tracked so hopefully I'll have the money before it appears on my credit card bill

It can take a while for the companies to pay Quidco: 3 months isn't unusual. I had one take over 6 months, once! Still, as long as it gets there in the end, I'm happy, and I'd rather have the money in my pocket than a link referrers.

Usually with insurance they wait something like 3 months before paying out so you can't get the cashback and then cancel the policy quickly. I'm still waiting for £100 from o2. I bought from them in August.

I noticed a few other links which may be of interest to me during the coming year. Unfortunately, I'm not a big spender, otherwise I'd make a mint like debbier!

 

There appears to be an annual fee too, but I've got such a large cashback amount I'm over the moon Just treated myself to a couple of free go's on the Euromillions too!

The annual fee is only taken if you make enough to cover it in referrals. Mine sounds like a lot, but it is over a while, and I've used it for a lot of things, from HMV to Thomas Cook holidays. The insurance and mobile phones seem to have been the big payers. Shame Amazon don't do it!

Debbier, I'm hot on your tail! I've got £47 being tracked already, so the annual fee is paid for this year, and one of the free lottery tickets has kindly paid out £7

 

Amazon are in the nectar points scheme, along with a lot of other retailers (like ebay)
