Scats layers pellets

Recommended Posts

We've always used the organic pellets, but we were in scats this week and they have their own brand gm free for a 3rd of the cost. The chooks don't seem to mind them... Err actually I don't even think they have noticed.. But I'm feeling guilty!!!! are these ok or rubbish nutrionally???? I'm sure one of you clever people will know the answer and if I need to give them more suppliments????

I have thought a lot about this, i recently bought a slightly more expensive brand of layers pellets due to recomondation to size of the pellets being more suitable than the ones i was using and on close inspection the size is negligible.

your girls will tell you if its ok or not by egg production and well being of the hens, though i think we somtimes worry too much about such things.

Years ago when people kept chickens in their gardens for eggs during the war and such was there any concern about which brand of layers pellets to use, i am sure they would have just been fed table s"Ooops, word censored!"s!

Its more your personal choice to an extent and what you can and are willing to afford, you sound like me and would buy them all wooly jumpers and personal food dishes if i thought it would do them any good lol.

So basically if they eat it and look ok and eggs are good dont worry too much!

If your hens seem ok on them then stick with them. Mine don't get fed organic feed and are fine. They've never been fed organically...

The downside to a lot of organic feed is that you often can't guarantee where all the material is from, as often it's not always 100% from the UK.

If the pellets smell 'fresh' are a good even size, arent damp, mouldy etc.. then they should be just fine after all many 'own brands' are actually a good brand in plainer packaging :D

On eof the benefits of own brands is that normally they are 25kg as opposed to 20kg bags that many of the named brands sell

There is one brand I wont touch with a bargepole though but you are ok it isnt Scats!

I agree, strange but true some smell and just look a lot better, not really into organic as i think it is overpriced for what it is, there is also one brand which i do not like it comes in a blueie green plastic bag and does not look or smell good at all.

i recently was given some recently that must have been a bit old and it stunk the house out.

Not saying that layers pellets smell nice but a decent batch kinda smells fresh!
