Off colour Mrs Trout - Any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

One of my hens (Mrs Trout) is not quite right in herself :anxious:

Tuesday, she was all huddled up in the corner and breathing a little noisy. not interested in food of any sort including treats. She was brought into the kitchen (which she made the most of, I was at work, its was the husband :shameonu: ) sat in a cardboard box. then was put back in the run where she went and laid an egg almost straight away. and then seemed a bit brighter. ( normal egg) poo very watery.

Today, she has been out with the others pecking around in the run, she's eaten some pelts and a few meal worms and had a short time free ranging when she did peck at some grass, and reasonably active. She is still breathing noisily and sometimes opening her mouth to breath. I've just picked her up to have a look at her in general, she was shaking a bit, my biggest comcern that she did not have very much in her crop.

Any suggestions to the cause of the symptoms?

and how can I treat her?

I think she maybe going to visit the vet tomorrow if there is no improvement.

Just to let you know Mrs Trout has been to the vet today and has had antibiotics, she is going back again tomorrow just to see she is improving.

Vets instructions - To be kept in isolation for a week, and not use the !egg! for two weeks.

So I now have a chicken free range in my kitchen.

Thank you all for your recommendations yesterday.
