How big a permanent run for .......

Recommended Posts

4 (or 5 :D ) bantams?

After seeing all the lovely pics of everybodies new girlies, I've decided that I REALLY need some new chooks and bantams would fit the bill nicely - not that I've seen any in real life, but presume they are half the size of normal chickens :?: . (chicken maths suggests that 4 extra teeny chickens will go unnoticed :shh: )

I have an area of around 5 foot by 14 foot which I would make into a permanent walk in run with a raised house - would this be big enough for 4 bantams  . Too many foxes etc around to have them free ranging.

Then the next questions are what type of bantam is best, where do I get them from, and do they eat the same as big chooks?

14x5ft is plenty big enough for 4 bantams! :D ... maybe a few more

They will eat the same - not sure near where you to get them, and that would probably have a say over what breeds to get.

I'd maybe get a couple of different breeds ... if it were me I'd get a pekin, frizzle poland, araucana bantam and modern game bantam

Thanks for the replies - the main worry was if I could fit them in.:dance:

Won't be able to get them until May/June so have plenty of time to look into suppliers. Quite like the idea of 4 different breeds and egg colours - love my blue egg layer
