emchook
Can I safely put into a 6*12ft WIR with an eglu I have been reading all about new chickens that lucky folk have been getting. I know you should introduce at least 2 chickens to an existing flock. I currently have 3 1yr old warrens ..and would love 2 more What do you think ? Is 5 chickens too many [ I was thinking a light sussex or a columbine and a maran ?? ]
tom123
I think 5 would be fine in there with some perches and other hentertainment
chelsea
I would say 5 is perfect. my WIR is slightly longer (6 x 15feet) and I have 5 hens in there comfortably, I don't like to overcrowd.
Cooks
I think the WIR is suitable for about 5 like the others have said but I personally think the eglu is too small for 5, but thats IMO, I know others may disagree I have 5 girls in a cube attached to a WIR of that size. Tutti Frutti
I'm sure five'll be fine Em - I have 4 in a and always end up with 2 in the nest box alone and the other two snuggle up so close, there's loads of roost left so I reckon five would fit in easily Not sure what happens in the summer, though? Would they be hot? and mezzanine levels increase floor space
Ain't Nobody Here
I have 5 in an eglu (and a fairly small run) but I'm very confident they are happy in their space . They spend more time in the run than out, even when the door's open and there is always loads of space in the eglu at night . Loads of poo too though .
