I think Roley's done it again!

Recommended Posts

I think Rolo, my Birman ,has a wicked sense of humour. He's a brilliant hunter, regularly leaving us 'presents' on the doormat ( the most memorable being half a rat- the bottom half complete with tail :o:vom: ) .But occasionally he brings his prize in live, then he usually brings it up to our room and lets it go, then sits back and watches the funny humans running around trying to catch the mouse/ bird/vole whatever...

Last autumn was the worst - he brought in 3 mice in quick succession, letting 2 go upstairs and one downstairs, I managed, after several hours to catch 2 of them , the 3rd was only found when it started stinking :vom:

Roley was in our room at 4am this morning and I could hear him scrabbling around at something, sure enough, he's prowling around and peering under the dresser. Guess who's going to spend their morning crawling around the bedroom on her knees with a torch, peering under the furniture :lol:

Glad I'm not the only one that gets those joys, although recently he's started leaving his presents at the door of the chickens WIR :? I reckon they are peace offerings as the girls are always picking on poor Tom.

The "best" present he ever brought us was a live mole, which he put in my bed  You can imagine my shock and surprise at that one :wall:

He has over the years brought us birds, mice, rats, voles, moles, frogs, toads, shrews, and most memorably a squirrel

We've another one here! Dave is very proficient at catching mice, it was sort of okay when he actually killed them but now he brings them in live and lets them go.

Hubby and I were in bed the other night when we kept hearing scratching noises and sure enough we had one under the bed

I left hubby to it and moved into DD's bedroom, good job she's away at uni.

We went out one evening briefly last week and got a frantic phone call from YS to say that Dave had brought another one in and whilst he was kneeling on the floor to try to get it the mouse ran up his trouser leg. He's completely scared of them now.

I'm hoping that when Dave gets a bit older he'll not catch so many.

 bet poor moley was confused- did you see him before your feet found him ? :o

I couldn't see anything under the dresser, so if anything is up there it's hiding somewhere else, no doubt it will wait until the early hours to make itself known.

I saw him when I pulled back the duvet, poor little mite, it was so terrified when I moved him that he died of fright a few minutes later :(

Our cats over the years have tried to train us to catch mice, birds and frogs. Ozzy is top hunter at the moment - he brings in a live bird quite often. He rarely kills them. We are quie good at herding starlings out of the house.

Sprocket used to catch mice but she usually killed them and placed them prominently for us as presents. Squeaker is a fabulous mouser, but lazy. She's perked up a bit now Ozzy has started catching mice, and brings us the odd present, but she kills them too. It is Ozzy who is providing the training materials for his servants to learn mice-catching skills on.

My BIL used to be a biologist, and he reckons if you provide them with a dark box and a little bit of food, the mouse will run into the dark box that it perceives to be safe. A cereal box with a couple of shreddies in it usually does the trick.

Another trick is to throw an old tea towel on the mouse if you get it out in the open. The mouse will be disorientated, and you can pick it up along with the towel and deposit it back outside.

Cats! I love 'em!
