Which chicken?

Recommended Posts

Hey all :D

Well, I just can't choose what chickens to get.

I already have red pekins, but I will probaly be selling these, probaly to my parents  Sounds weird I know, but they have pekins there could pair with my reds, anyway!

I was looking at Gold Laced Sebrights, but I'm not so sure. I was then looking at cochins, but my parents already have a trio, and they take up alot of space. I want something the size of pekins, or around that size. I have ALOT of space, so not really limited to space, but nothing too mad

I'd appreciate your opinions, or what your favourite chicken is.

Cheers,

My favourite bantams are Wyandottes, no feathery legs to worry about!

On the other hand Red Pekins are very rare so why dont you keep yours and ask you parents to buy some for themselves

True, I'll look into these. :D

Personally I wouldn't call them Very Rare, we have bred alot here, I'd class them as uncommon, I'm seeing more and more every day. It's not that they want them, it's I want to go for something different, my parents only have pekins (except 3 cochins) and I would like something different.

Thanks for your input though :D

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,

Sebrights are lovely, I have a pair of Gold and the little boy is so funny. Very caring and such a gent!

Wyandottes are my favourite. So easy to look after, no crests, feathery legs etc. just stunning, traditional chooks

:D

I think I've made my decision on Gold Sebrights. I want to get a trio, or qaurtet(bad spelling, I mean 1 cockerel, 3 hens). I'm quite intrested in getting an eglu possibly, if I can get the funds. Would a standard classic be ok for a trio/quartet of sebrights?

I do like Wyandottes, but not yet, maybe one day

I think a trio/quartet would be fine in an eglu  Why not go for a 'Go' instead? They're cheaper

Just remember, Sebrights can go for a lot of money, last month at Salisbury, a slightly scabby silver pullet went for £50  Me and my friend were lucky enough to get some at the Federation sale section (A pair for £55!).

I might not buy it new, as in my opinion it's expensive, so I'll just buy it second-hand :D

I'm not too up on prices with sebrights, but I know they aren't cheap. I'm prepared to spend a good amount of money, for a decent trio. What price approx would I be looking at for a trio of gold sebrights?

I would pay £70-80 on a good, well marked Trio :)

About what I was thinking, there's a big sale soon, at Mildenahall, Suffolk. It's massive, and some real good quality stuff there sometimes. Let's hope there's something there.

Got too get some funds now... I have a load of stuff to sell, so thats about £50, £40ish, for the rest of my stock, and put in some of my own money, from my cash box, about £30, £120 on chickens, and some other things. I've already got a 9ftx3ft coop, that I bought ages ago, but never opened it  So I could use that, here's what it looks like: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/9ft-Poultry-Hen-Chicken-House-Coop-Rabbit-Hutch-109AT_W0QQitemZ220559972257QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry?hash=item335a6617a1 I got it for £140, because I found one cheap :P

So that should be ok for them.

Suppose that's all?

I have one of them as well, got it for £90 :lol:

That would be fine for a quartet of Sebrights  Good luck and let me know how you get on :)

P.S. Have just replied to your thread in Eglus and Cubes :D

:twisted::lol:

Thanks very much, and I replied on the other thread.
