chickencam
There has just been an item on Jeremy Vine's show with Fern Britten about Dyslexia. It was suggesting that Dyslexic people can't hear their inner voice. When reading etc they can't hear their thoughts. There is a test on the Jeremy vine website to check this. I just tried it on my own (it does suggest you try it with 2 people) It is really hard for me. My son is currently waiting to be tested for dyslexia. I am a slow but perfectly able reader, but find it nearly impossible to read if there is other noise in the room, especially speech. just wondered what the experience of others is? ClaireG
Thanks Liz, that's really interesting. I had a problem with the counting and letters took way longer than 25 seconds! I don't have problems with hearing my inner self when reading though. Will have a go with DS later and see how he gets on, he is both dyspraxic and dyslexic. jenuk99
Ok my question is what do you hear? I am dyslexic and a teacher so have made it through uni but would not describe myself as academic.

ClaireG
Just done this with DS he had real problems with both numbers and letters. He couldn't read the passage but says when he reads in his head he hearshimself butthe volume doesn't go up and down. He also finds it hard to read if there's other noise in the room. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Ok my question is what do you hear?I am dyslexic and a teacher so have made it through uni but would not describe myself as academic. Are you allowed to be a teacher without being academic? Isn't it called 'academia'? I had a look at the website linked from the Jeremy Vine site. I'm not dyslexic, but it's really hard to read with that layout and spelling. There would be no harm in him having someone who isn't dyslexic look over it to improve it, which would make it a more useful tool for people who DO have dyslexia! The presentation of the site does his ideas a disservice and has the look and feel of a lunatic fringe site...
Egluntyne
If you go the 'print it off' document it is set out in a much easier style.
Lydia
Blimey it's Gary Chevin! Now there's a name I thought I wouldn't come across again! In a previous life I worked for 7 years for the British Dyslexia Association and Gary was a regular correspondent on everything we were doing wrong. The site is set out exactly the same as Mr Chevin's letters used to be....
