ubereglu
Hello, For my current art project I'm concentrating on endangered species and am currently exploring the idea of chinese medicine and what animals are used it. On my list so far are: -Tigers -Rhinos -Bears -Seahorse -Shark -Turtle -Musk Deer I just wanted to know if any of you could come up with any more...Many thanks in advance, Liz
Lewis
Tortoise and elephant are 2 that come into my mind ... not sure though. I think they also use some venoms as anaesthetics, but again, not sure. Are you painting/drawing them?
ubereglu
Well, the topic I've chosen is called 'altering the scale', so I'm putting plastic toy animals into a jam jar to represent that the whole animal has to be killed for just a small part of the animal and so they're decreasing in numbers in the wild...I'm then going to do drawings/paintings of this. It's all a bit complicated really! This afternoon, for the same project I wandered up to the local garden centre to take photos of small plastic toys in various plants, thankfully none of the staff saw me, as they may have thought I was rather strange. For example, I took a photo of a panda toy in a bamboo plant up there!
PurpleTree
when I was in Art college I spent a day photographing a plastic cactus in various strange places. All in the name of Art huh?

ubereglu
Sounds good Liz! Don't the chinese use Whales as well I'm not sure they do for chinese medicine, but as part of the whaling trade yes...will look it up. I like the plastic cactus, PurpleTree! Now, if you can remember where was the funniest/strangest place you photographed it?
PurpleTree
erm, it was mostly around the college grounds, so up trees, on top of bollards, in the middle of the car park, on top of the bins. Done at different angles, including lying on the floor in front of it. As part of the project before even starting college we had to make a collection of something, I did cacti - that was fun transporting about 10 cacti of varying spikiness back and fore. We had to photograph the other ones too. All in black and white, on proper film of course All good fun. Sorry not much help with Chinese medicine. ubereglu
That's ok, I was just intrigued! I love black and white film, when my sister was at university she took photos of one of the meals she went to entirely using a black and white film and the effects are great! I definitely agree that cacti are not the easiest things to lug around! I insisted on buying a rather large cactus when I was about 6 as I really liked it, then I made Mum walk all the way home with it! Roughly ten years later and we have loads of this type of cacti around the house, although they do produce some gorgeous flowers.
