Rubber Chippings for chicken run......... Anybody used?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Noticed some sites are now advertising Rubber chippings for the chicken runs, saying it

stops areas getting muddy, and 'Just hose it down'..... keeps clean..... Has anybody

out there tried this ?

Await the thoughts of the 'In the know' chicken lovers.....

Done the rubber chippings, worse thing I ever did, they would not hose down and over winter ended up with a boggy stinky mess :vom: . I have just had to move them onto the patio til the weather gets better and invest in a WIR. My husband and dad had to dig up the chippings OMG :vom: it was awful, once you started to dig the stench was unbearable. So at the moment they are happy on the patio with wood chippings.

Hi Balti,

Just thought I'd tell you my experience as well. I have had rubber chippings on top of weed suppressing membrane since last October. I have found it really good and no smell whatsoever. I hose the poos every night and put down run disinfectant once a week. Every now and then I give it a rake and hose down anything that hasnt passed through. The only thing I have found is that I really need to change to a heavy duty membrane because they are beginning to scratch it up and then of course they are mixing the soil with the chippings and I am having to put bricks round the edges to stop them but apart from that I am delighted with it.

Just have to find a very heavy duty membrane!!
