Janty
Just had a phone call from my in-laws. Someone they know has been looking after some quail for someone else and they no longer want them. I called the number that they gave me and the man I spoke to doesn't know how many he has...estimates about 15 and he doesn't know what type they are. He says that they are just in a pen in the garden and he chucks food into them every now and again. I've got a spare eglu so I've said I will take a look at them this afternoon with a view to taking them. It doesn't matter to me if they're old...they can live out their old age in an eglu or two but I'd better check they are not all boys (curse of Janty). I'm quite excited. It's raining at the moment but I will get their luxury accomodation ready soon.

Janty
Disaster! Slightly different story to what I'd been told. It seems that the person who has the quail is the person who hatched the quail. He is going away for a month and his friend (friend of in-laws) is looking after all his animals. It is correct that the owner doesn't want them anymore but I couldn't take them on. There were about 3 or 4 females and the rest (roughly 14) were males. They had been pecking each other and whilst it was sad leaving them, I haven't got the room to separate them all out and provide enough females to keep the peace.
