Books For Reluctant Reader - Help Needed Please UPDATE

Recommended Posts

Thank you all you lovely people for your ideas and research  I have gone for 2 graphic novels the 1st Young Bond By Charlie Higson and the 1st Alex Rider by Horowitz. I had no idea that they had put these books into graphic novel format. I thought that they were totally perfect for boys as they were but as my nephew proves, some boys need more encouragement  I have also ordered the 1st Whimpy Kid which looks fun. Thanks for all of the other suggestions which I will keep up my sleeve for future presents for him. They were great but more that about 20 words on a single page gives him a nose bleed :lol:

I've been watching this with interest as my grandson is a reluctant reader - perfectly capable but disinterested! So was my son......it seems to be a boy thing in our family.....

I should say he was a reluctant reader because after Christmas he became interested in Warhammer and started attending a group which meets on a Sunday afternoon. Yesterday my daughter was called to see his teacher.......and was told "every so often there is a child who makes it all worthwhile" - and that child was Jake!!!! He has improved by 4/5 stages in just those few weeks :D The Warhammer interest seems to have given him the impetus to read.

.....and......... my son was only interested in reading comics and Guinness Book of Records - another capable but disinterested reader......now in his thirties he has discovered biographies (My favourite genre - I've only been trying to get him interested for 20 years! ) and reads quite a lot now :D - I've actually bought some books ready for his birthday :D

I was going to say that my ES wasn't ever interested in reading either but now at 18 and having to do boring train journeys to work he's got into reading, usually fantasy type books similar to Lord of the Rings sort of things. So there is hope.

Apart from my hubby who can take 3 or 4 years to read a book
