Woop Woop - the joy of ducks.

Recommended Posts

Can't contain my excitement - had to spread the news. Went out to put Bill and Daffers to bed tonight and in their house was.....

AN EGG!!!!!! !eggblue! Beautifully formed and a lovely blue egg at that.:clap::clap:

Who knew it could be so exciting and that you could be so proud of a duck!:dance: Thinking it would probably be Daffers - I wonder what tomorrow will bring!

OH built their new WIR this weekend so it would be nice to think that this was a 'thank you for our lovely new digs'!

Think I may have overdone the smilies - apologies! :D:D

Off for a celebration glass of wino

Hurray! I got excited too when one of our new ducks started laying last Saturday (it must be a little bit milder down here in the soft South, not that you'd notice in our garden this evening). :D

She's now laid 5 in the last 6 days. First was in their indoor "pond" (a plastic under-the-bed crate that's in their run), 2nd was in the ducklu nesting box, 3rd was in the hedge because I let them out early, then she had a day off, then the pond again and today in the nesting box again.

We've thrown the "pond" eggs away as they probably won't be useable after spending several hours under water. The others will be turned into cakes this weekend!

I couldn't believe how excited I was at seeing the first egg. I have been equally excited every morning since to find another! 3 in total so far getting progressively bigger. My Daphne is being very well behaved and laying either during the night or before I let them out in the morning so each egg has been in their house.

It's still pretty baltic up here at themoment but we have theodd burst of sunshine which must have spurred her on.

Baking time it is!

Yes Chucky I have to admit there was a wee sigh of relief amongst the leaps for joy! My pond antics have not ceased either although I have given them a 'talking too' about their inappropriate behaviour :shameonu: They take no notice

Feeling quite guilty about eating their produce but I'm sure I'll get over that tomorrow morning which will be the official tasting. :anxious:

Eggs and buses - that is my thought for the day!

Went out to the duck house this morning to let the dearies out and to my amazement ...

3 EGGS :shock::shock: We're now at a half dozen!

I must have missed one yesterday methinks (distracted by the pond antics?). So both my little frolicking duckies have laid an egg. Had them (the eggs - not the duckies) for breakfast this morning and they were delish.

The joys of spring ....

That's great JJ, nothing quite like a duck egg for breakfast.

Amazes me that the chickens seem to scratch about all day laying but every morning now as we open their door two eggs just pushed to the side as they waddle out :D

No fuss no bother :D
