Madchook
Due to hatch on Friday....the only survivor is Mr Araucuna. Which I am not unhappy about as it will be kept whether it is a cock or hen I think I do like coloured eggs. I am not happy about the Maran giving up though, at day 12 we had good veins and they just disappeared (it was a lovely dark egg too). Finally decided to crack the egg this morning and there was an embryo about this long [----] in it. I guess at least I know it was fertile. I totally understand why people diss the rcom mini - why did I buy a 3 egg incy exactly?! Oh yeah, gimmick scope thing that isn't even very good! LOL. Luckily for me, Mum's school hybrids will be hatching Friday / Sat and my Mum is the one taking them home for the weekend. So I shall be liberating a chick if the blue one hatches ...phew I have 12 eggs set in my new manual (homemade by someone on ebay) incy though, so starting countdown again (on day 2 now). 6 Indian Game and 6 Red Dorking
Redwing
Sorry to hear it hasnt gone to plan What is the new inccy? is it one of those polystyrene ones? I have one and it really is very good
Madchook
Yes it is Tasha, and it holds the temp really well (was a bit worried after reading some of his feedback). Only thing I am wondering is if the humidity is ok. His instructions said to keep the little pot full of water all the way through - I have a meter in there (admitedly cheap one) and it is reading near 50% . But he does say cheap meters can cause problems - what do you do?
Redwing
My poly inccy has never wavered on temp its absolutely spot on - I have an auto turn inccy now but se the poly to move the eggs to at day 18 for hatching Only thing is they get dirty and germy very quicky so I have lined mine with some plastic matting which I can take out to clean - this should extend the life of the inccy beyond the normal few hatches The green stand up hydro thingies arent that good, the 'compass' style disc stick on ones are fine though, better is a digital one - they are pretty low cost
Raina
Is it the one with the round plastic window at the front? If it is i had one of those,I liked it,the light flashing on & off during the night was a little annoying though I used a 2 way digital Thermometer & a round Reptile stick on humidity thing! i tried it with just the little pink pot and the humidity wouldn't go above 40% so i used and old Nestle chocolate spread glass cup, Filled it half way with warm water and put an old piece of net curtain over the top (wrapped it up tight so chicks wouldn't drown, it was like a trampoline lol) then when i had to up the humidity i filled it all the way to the top with hot water. Redwing
I use a jam jar with a bit of kitchen roll folded over a couple of times standing up like a wick
Madchook
Thankyou both, I think I will use a jam jar from day 18 (if it'll fit!) Little 'Blue' is now in lockdown I'm all broody and mildly hopeful as it was def alive this evening before I put the hatching tray in
