Just a quickie- my WIR base is complete and i have left an area of soil in the middle for the girls to scratch in- however, despite having slabs all the way round, i'm still worried about mr fow getting in and up through the soil area!??? ,...... make sense?? if i just slab the lot and use easibed all over- does this give the girls enough fun - scratching around etc- they will only have limited FR time - so thats why the soil idea came to mind.

some people slab all over, and say that it's easier to clean.

 

It's unlikely that a fox would dig that far ... they are not moles! They will s"Ooops, word censored!"e a hole under a fence for example, but it's rare that they would actually tunnel under something as big as a slab - assuming the WIR will be resting on it - it would probably take them more than a night to do it, so you would see the evidence.

 

Up to you, I have mine resting on slabs with earth in the middle and it's fine.

For ease of cleaning and your peace of mind - if you can afford the time and money to do it, I would slab the lot. Will make it much easier come winter time when it's wet to get the run bedding out.

 

Wish I had slabbed all mine.

I'm happy with mine having soil in the middle and am totally confident nothing could dig underneath (it's laid on hardcore).

I have a full concrete base, so the same as slabs really, and I wouldn't have it any other way. So much much easier, my girls FR a lot though, but when they have to be in the run I scatter stuff in the bedding for them to scratch about and find.. they are perfecftly happy.

Foxes like an upright edge to dig against so providing the the WIR has a sufficient "lip/skirt" of concrete around it should act as a deterrant like the skirt on the eglu run

 

Personally I my WIR is ALL slabbed and the cube run is not - I MUCH prefer cleaning out the WIR
