Chicken boarders

hooray!!! our first egg came today! We thought it would be our Mis Pepperpot as she is older, but our ginger ranger laid one instead. However, her egg shell was very flimsy.Should we put grit in their diet?

They should have poultry grit available at all times.

 

They do get soft shelled eggs when they first come into lay though.

We have some little cage cups all around our walk in run with grit in them and the girls help themselves when they need it.

The grit is a good idea. Congratulations on your first egg. THey always are flimsy at first but they should get better. If they don't feed them their own boiled eggshells and put cod liver oil in their treats or pellets

Thanks for your tips . The crushed cooked shells were a hit and today we got the grit. I'm keeping them on woodchip which I got from our allotment . Its so full of grubs I feel we may have spoilt them . Mrs Cluckles comb looks like its grown since she laid the egg yesterday!Or maybe I've just been gazing at her for too long.We love chickens!!
