Vegetable patch

Recommended Posts

Im currently building my vegetable patch, as i have found my ongoing passion for chickens means i have moved the vegetable patch about three time to build something new there like a pen.

So instead i thought to build a wooden one literally wooden walls and not dug into the ground - but put on ground that is all turned over.

It would be roughly 16cm high, and then obviously roots would grow into the turned over soil beneath.

We have been using out compost bin for about 5 months...and at the bottom it isn't yet compost...although, i was wondering what if i took from the bottom (mostly wood shavings filled with lots of poo) and put a third of that down giving the rest of the small vegetable patch to be filled with bagged compost from garden centre? Is this a good idea, as it is decomposing at the moment and will carry on to and has lots of nutrients. Plus it means i spend less on filling it fully with expensive garden compost?
