Mollie333
Today i went to go and pick one of my Pekin bantam girls up and rather than running away, they just started like sqwatting down. They all seem to be doing it now, exept from my silkie x pekins.. my three pekins have recently started laying, and one of my POL chickens have started crouching down, too. Sorry about the lame decription, can anyone help me? .. Thankyou.
chelsea
Nothing to worry about, hens that are approaching POL or are in lay do the squatting action, (they think you are the cockerel).
Redwing
yes they are either laying or close to laying, its a sign of maturity and is basically a message for a cockerel that they are ready to mate they will crouch for you if you place a hand above them, its normal and a sign of submission
Mollie333
LOL. thankyou.. so do you think my hybrid girl will soon lay? Edited September 24, 2010 by Guest
chuckmum6
My Pekins have both just started to lay and both squatting every time I approach which means I nearly trip over these wobbling feather bundles, that sudden submit in front of me! Smiler33
Betsy does that too - the other 3 who aren't ready to lay yet scoot around everywhere, but Betsy just plants herself!
