Can I use a greenhouse for my chooks? I have a small chicken coop but no room for a run in my small garden, but there is an old greenhouse. Could I use this for my 4 hens to give them a change of scene, but I am worried it would be too hot. They can FR when I am at home, but I feel that leaving them in the coop when I am at work is too confining. :anxious: Any ideas? Has anyone else used a greenhouse? Any advice/ suggestions welcome!

could you convert the greenhouse into a WIR for them?? ie changing it about so it was not too hot? I am sure I heard someone mention on here that a person had done that.

You said it was an old greenhouse so I took from that you dont still use it as a greenhouse. Alternatively you could put a WIR where the greenhouse is??.. :silenced::silenced::silenced::silenced::lol:

I used our greenhouse to let the show chickens have some freedom over winter whilst still being warm enough to keep condition on them, it worked very well, it does have very secure doors though. On the sunny days we have had recently I have opened the roof vents a crack (again they have secure catches) for some cool air

Mine will be out of the greenhouse in the next week though as its just too hot to use when the weather warms up...besides I want to start my veggies off

One suggestion would be to remove the glass and add weldmesh instead maybe leaving glass in the roof for shelter

Thanks for the suggestions - I like the idea of replacing some of the glass with weldmesh that would work nicely. I would love to use the greenhouse for its proper purpose, but only just about to move house so no time for sowing, potting on etc this spring. :( The chooks can enjoy it, for this year at least!
