Sarahsausage
My ex-batt Betty has been laying soft eggs for quite a while now and I was wondering if the vet could give her a hormone injection to stop her producing eggs, I'm worried she's going to get an egg stuck and die the same as Rita did. Has anyone else had this done to their hens?
Egluntyne
Why not ring your vet to find out? Have you tried all the usual tips re soft eggs, like calcium supplements, vit D3, greens?
Happy chickens!
When I had a problem like this with one of the ex-bats the BHWT suggested taking her off lay by keeping her on a diet of corn, but not sure of the long term implications of this (not a balanced diet etc) but may be good for temporary fix. Didn't try it myself as was impractical to keep feeding her separately. (Calcium sups etc didn't work either for her)
Sarahsausage
I can't keep my girls separately either, I might ring the vets and find out as I give them all calcium supplements and greens every day. Thanks for the advice though
chelsea
There is an implant apparently, we were going to try it on our Ella who had sterile peritonitis but sadly she has passed on. I believe this implant has been tested on ferrets with success. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it but suggest you have a word with your vet.
