Poorly chicken

Hi everyone. Need some advice.

 

We are planning on building a walk in run in the next few weeks. we are going to put our orange cube into it minus the run.

 

the problem that we have is that one of our chickens has gone blind (apart from that there is nothing else wrong with her and she lays everyday). but because she cant see to get up and down the ladder of the cube she is constantly sqwuaking (think thats how you spell it!) until she finally gets up there to lay. needless to say i dont think the neighbours are too impressed at 7.30!!!!

 

do you think that there would be any way to adapt the cube so that it was just the 'orange bit' maybe on a small base of wood so that it wasnt on the floor but we take the ladder and wheels etc off. (hope that makes sense). so that maybe all she had to do was a little hop.

 

we really dont want to get rid of the cube because its brill.

I know others have used the cube without the wheels and ladder so I would think you;ll have no problem doing that. Bless your little chickens heart, I think that would certainly help her

Poor little chicken . Could you build a ramp rather than lose your wheels? Depends on the space in your WIR, obviously, but at leas then you wouldn't lose the benefit of the height of the cube.

My OH built a wooden slatted table which is level with the cube door and removed the cube steps. We then have a wooden ladder from the table to the WIR floor. Our old gal found this much easier.
