jam
Hey all, I finally put my first set of eggs in the incubator!!! Im so excited, but I think my excitement got the better of me. I was planning to only get 7 eggs or so as I havnt really got that much space for anymore than that. I bought the eggs from the breeder I got my first chickens from and as the brahma he gave turned out to be a cockerel, he insisted on giving me 7 free eggs on top of the ones I bought to fill up my incubator as compensation, so now I have 14!! 2 vorweks, 5 buff orps and 7 pekins. Whatever am I to do with them all!! lol Im sure ill get around it somehow, just like we did with the guinea pigs when one turned out to pregnant when we bought it... Saying that its taken 4 years for me to get rid of all of those!
Redwing
Well in reality you may well get some that are not fertile, some that will die during incubation and some that dont hatch, that combined with a few mistakes that you may well make as its your first time incubating mean that the hatch rate may well only be 50-70% bear in mind that some of the hatchlings will be boys which will need to be dealt with or rehomed (depending on your arrangement) mean that you could end up with maybe 2-5 girls There is a big difference in the sizes of all of those breeds though
Madchook
hehe, but you couldn't have said no... I bet you'll get a great hatch rate now too, I think that is how it works!
