Treats & entertainment from 5 weeks?

Recommended Posts

Advice please for a novice owner of 3 new Sussex...

When can i offer them treats? As i need something to tempt them to go to roost back up the ramp to the upper level of their hen house . So far on mild & sunny days they've loved their time in the run below, but instaed of following the light as advised, they just huddle in the corner! They are currently growing well on chick crumb. Also i"ve hard about hanging stuff for them to peck at as allthough they look pretty content, they are s"Ooops, word censored!"ping from time to time.

I understand they will be 6 weeks old on Easter Monday although one is smaller than the others. I will try & attatch a photo!

Thanks everyone the advice on this forum is invaluable.

Those girls are much older than 6 weeks, and should be on growers at least by now, they must be eating you out of house and home if they're still on chick crumb !

You could try crushing some corn for them, or using the crumb as a mash as a treat. You could give them some mealworms, my girls would jump through hoops for them

They do look beautuful though, lovely looking girls, my light sussex are my favourties, always jumping on my knee for a cuddle :shh: dont tell the others though

Re the yellow legs.............. of my hatch of 3 Light Sussex last summer I had one hen & one cockerel each with pink/white legs & one cockerel with mustard yellow legs.........no idea why & no-one I asked could give me a good reason for it, sorry that's not much help, but as least it shows you are not alone in having a yellow legged Lt Sx
