Ms Marple
Has anyone every tried this before? I am sure someone has and the answer is don't do it! We have just completed stage one of the WIR, in that we have created Camp Chicken by fencing off a large part of the garden with concrete posts and trellis. The trellis sits on top of concrete slabs which are under the ground to annoy Mr Fox. Stage three is to be a 'Tony' run roughly 2mx 3m and the remainder of the space is to be open. What to put on the floor though is the concern - as there is no longer any grass - chickens - huh! The soil gets VERY muddy and slippy which is why I am pondering gravel or an alternative. Some pictures would perhaps help - I will try to take some tomorrow. Btw the flooring solution is stage 2!
sjp
mine enjoy digging up my slate chipping path looking for worms and wood lice and they suffered no cuts. I sure some one on practical poultry recommended gravel
Egluntyne
Somebody did use it and found that the poo stayed as a stinking mass underneath the gravel. Can't remember who, now, sorry. I suppose it depends on what the drainage is like in your garden though.
